Assignment 3 - Evaluation

How the aims of the production have been met

The aims of our trailer have been met in numerous ways. For example, we have had major success in getting our actors in on time as well as them coming in well prepared, (knowing their dialogues and what scenes they will be taking part in.) On top of that our actors also came in the correct costume all the time making shots easy to film and making it easy for us editors to distinguish what shots went where. Moreover, the software, Final Cut Pro, that we used was advance and very effective to use when it cam to putting our shots together. It had a wide range of editing tools such as: the blade tool, the audio select tool, the trim tool, the colour board saturation etc. all this making it very convenient for us to get our work done and for us to play with the lighting of shots. Furthermore, the numerous transitional devices available to us like the fade in, cut and match cut made our movie look very well put and professional.

How the product applies appropriate codes and conventions and uses appropriate media language

In our movie we have challenged as well as followed the conventions of a movie trailer. Most of the time we have followed the conventions of a movie trailer by having a narrator speak over scenes being shown, having logos and titles towards the end of the movie and having shots fade in and out during calm scenes but action scenes contain more fast paced editing. However, we have also gone against the conventions of a trailer by not following a chronological order. Instead we have action scenes where audiences would expect dialogue scenes and we have multiple over the shoulder shots throughout an action scene to create some tension between our characters. All this to try and immerse the audience in our film and always have them wondering what scene will come next.

How the product represents people, places or events

The target audience for our trailer are young adults between the ages of 20-30. So, we’ve taken a very professional yet entertaining approach when creating this trailer. This is mainly since we feel our audience would enjoy a movie that contains action scenes, but also scenes that contain drama and emotional effects. We want to give the trailer a sort of ambiguity, so people who enjoy action can come watch as well as he people who enjoy drama. Us editors feel we have accomplished this by giving our actors certain props like fake guns and knives for tense action scenes and have them get emotional and cry for drama filled scenes. All this accomplished managed to accomplish our theme (action drama.)

Where and when the product would be exhibited/distributed

I fell we would distribute our trailer online on one of the top streaming sites like Netflix, Amazon Prime or YouTube, because now a day using social media sites bring a lot more attraction to a movie or a trailer than a having it shown in the theater. This is because social media sites like YouTube present these movie or trailers for free and in the comfort of our own bed. Unlike movie theaters, which you would have to pay money to see a movie which would then show you a bunch of trailers instead, social media sites allow us to broadcast our trailer everywhere and to anyone. This not only brings more attractions, but it also allows people to comment what they think about the trailer allowing us to see what is wrong and what is right with what we have produced.

What regulations and controls might be applied to the product and how these have been taken into consideration

We have tried our absolute best to make this movie a PG 15+ trailer and we are sure these guidelines would be set to our trailer due to the intense actions scenes which sometimes contain blood and violence.  However, we do follow the other restrictions that come along with PG 15+ trailers and that is keeping no discrimination and no nudity in our trailer.

The strengths and weaknesses of the product in terms of meeting the needs of its audience

Relating back to our audience’s feedback about our trailer we have understood overall it is a fairly successful trailer. This is due to numerous good reasons as well as bad. According to their feedback, sometimes we lose the theme of the trailer and go off topic, which is understandable due to the unconventional structure we have tried to interpret into our film. Other than that I feel we have accomplished a successful film with a strong storyline behind it due to the filing and editing techniques we have used throughout.
