Assignment 3 - Film trailer analysis

Genre- The genre of the Dark Knight rises is an action drama as it continously jumps between continuous gripping fast action shots and it also tells a story. The genre is communicated to the audience by the fast impactful editing, to show conflict or suspense between each shot, and snippets of dialogue to show what the movie is based on

Miss en scene The setting in this movie is quite isolated, dark and gloomy, as it is a town filled with millions of vigilantes, therefore giving a vibe of un-wantedness and un-safty. Moreover the filter put on the whole trailer puts a lot of emphasis on the darker colours to show the significance of the death and untrustworthy behaviour between the characters. The costumes used in this trailer are conceded and covered when it comes to the hero as no one knows who he is and he bring justice without being seen, whereas the villains are more open to brag about their strength and power. The NCV in this trailer is done very well as without a lot of communication we can distinguish the the hero is coming back because of the dialogue, however we can also tell who the villain is because of the low shot used to show him. As
if we are looking up to the villain to show much much power he has. For example over here we are looking up on him to show as if he is superior. Also the voice given to bane is a very deep voice and he usually speaks in riddles to show what he is going to do to the city, makes the audience feel a sense of fear as he is very intimidating. The lighting used in the trailer is very dark to show you silhouette of the actions scenes that are happening but they are not light or long enough to be shown what is actually happening, once again giving the audience a sense of mystery.

Narrative There is not a bunch of narrative told in this trailer but it does follow a fragmented order. It shows how the villain has come to take over the city of Gotham, whiteout the hero being seen anywhere and towards the end how the hero has a fight with the villain but subsequently gets dominated. Most of the story is told in sentences with fitting music soaking up all the scenes. For example instead of dialogue when it comes to bridges being exploded, intense orchasteric music is being played instead to get the audience thinking of what is happening.

On screen graphics and editing- The CGI used in this movie is very advanced and impactful as it shows a big chunk to the audience of how the
city is falling and quickly and nothing is being done about it and this creates a tense atmosphere as the audience starts to think whether this villain will actually get beaten. Furthermore the editing used in this shot is very quick and agile showing all the action that is happening and all the death and breaking of the movie.

Assignment 2 - Magazine article

What made you realise that music was your way to success?

Ever since I was young, I was drawn the content and the understanding of the deep and dynamic lyrics of rap. I used to sit for hours listening to potent music, especially the lyrics that told stories through rap and stories that could related to my struggle in school the struggles of bullying. Moreover, I never really enjoyed the subjects in school, my passion for music was influenced through my music teacher as he was the only one that felt and understood my struggle as all the others never really listened to what I had to say. All they told me was to “face my problems” when in reality it wasn’t only the problems in school that constrained me. The way I could be distracted by the torment of my abusive step father was through music and through writing my feelings onto the scrap pieces of paper I could spend all my money on. It was a tough life but it was something I was willing to risk everything for. And as they say 'all great beginnings come from humble background.'

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

I’m a storyteller and my music shows that, through a unusual unique music pattern. That follows a unique structure.
So I tend to keep the vocals real and original with no auto tune and more of old school hip hop. Every song is a story or a poem told through music added with riffs of guitar, that you don’t expect

Who are your biggest musical influences?

Jimi Hendrix is one of my biggest influences. He played the guitar from his heart and his soul channelled and bloomed showing it. I used to sit for hours a day watching him play and trying to copy him but i could never get it right. He revolutionised the tone and tune of the guitar. Inspired many famous artists and musicians and continuous to be one of the greatest influences in the world till this date. Even years after his death he still stands as the greatest guitarists that ever lived and his music has inspired most of my riffs in my songs. I unfortunately wasn’t born yet to witness his potent, beautiful performances, I still appreciate everything he’s done for the black community and how he revolutionised music as it stands.

What makes your music unique?

My musical influences, my approach to the industry of rap, is like no other it changes the way people feel and hear music.  I began my musical career as an influential rapper and guitarist but then my performing career took a back seat to my marriage, and raising my family in the hood. It was very hard to get the essentials for the family as well as having rap as your job, it was not conventional, I couldn't do both. So I took a step back and focused on the family and I rejected all opportunities to excel my career unless I knew I could fend for my loved ones.

Assignment 2 - Album cover and magazine page

Target Audience- the target audience for this album cover are inspiring musicians who are struggling to make it into the industry due to the high amount of competition and more importantly, the struggle for recognition due to the detrimental backgrounds they lived in.

Interview- I made the interview appeal to the target audience as in the interview i talked about "Points" endeavour to seek for success and this relates to the target audience as the whole point of the magazine is that without success nothing can be accomplished. Moreover, the music interview (NME magazine) is related to the album cover as "growing pains" talk about how progressive pain subsides as success prevails and all pain leaves is distance memories of success.

Album Cover- I made the album cover appeal to the target audience as even though the shot used is a low shot to make the model look higher than everyone else and more socially important, i made him look into the distance to signify that even though he is at the top he still looks into the distance to see how he can improve more. So this reaches out to the target audience as a) it shows "Point" as a role model and b) it shows him as someone who is still aspiring and open to learn more. Teaching target audience to always seek for more. Moreover, the font at the bottom which I used shows the place Point has come from, a place where there was a lot of graffiti, uneasiness, death and a lot of black money. This shows the type of situation Point has come out from.

Conventions of album covers and magazine covers- i followed the conventions of the magazine cover and album cover as in the magazine cover i followed a set of fixed columns, with the picture being place in the back and a simple question and answer structure. Furthermore, i also followed the conventions of a music album cover by making my model have an indirect address so the audience could see how he is thinking about the future and how he seeks for more eminence. Additionally, the model is also wearing a Rolex to signify his stereotypical rappers wealth.

Synergy- is created between the album cover and the magazine as in the magazine I talk about how Point has gone through many things to be very successful and how he a struggled a lot to achieve the status he stands on now. This is then carried on in the album cover as you see how the struggle he has faced has lead to a prime life
