What made you realise that music was your way to success?
Ever since I was
young, I was drawn the content and the understanding of the deep and dynamic
lyrics of rap. I used to sit for hours listening to potent music, especially
the lyrics that told stories through rap and stories that could related to my
struggle in school the struggles of bullying. Moreover, I never really enjoyed
the subjects in school, my passion for music was influenced through my music
teacher as he was the only one that felt and understood my struggle as all the
others never really listened to what I had to say. All they told me was to
“face my problems” when in reality it wasn’t only the problems in school that
constrained me. The way I could be distracted by the torment of my abusive step
father was through music and through writing my feelings onto the scrap pieces
of paper I could spend all my money on. It was a tough life but it was
something I was willing to risk everything for. And as they say 'all great
beginnings come from humble background.'
How would
you describe the music that you typically create?
I’m a storyteller
and my music shows that, through a unusual unique music pattern. That follows a
unique structure.
So I tend to keep
the vocals real and original with no auto tune and more of old school hip hop.
Every song is a story or a poem told through music added with riffs of guitar,
that you don’t expect
Who are your
biggest musical influences?
Jimi Hendrix is
one of my biggest influences. He played the guitar from his heart and his soul
channelled and bloomed showing it. I used to sit for hours a day watching him
play and trying to copy him but i could never get it right. He revolutionised
the tone and tune of the guitar. Inspired many famous artists and musicians and
continuous to be one of the greatest influences in the world till this date.
Even years after his death he still stands as the greatest guitarists that ever
lived and his music has inspired most of my riffs in my songs. I unfortunately
wasn’t born yet to witness his potent, beautiful performances, I still appreciate
everything he’s done for the black community and how he revolutionised music as
it stands.
What makes
your music unique?
My musical
influences, my approach to the industry of rap, is like no other it changes the
way people feel and hear music. I began my musical career as an
influential rapper and guitarist but then my performing career took a back seat
to my marriage, and raising my family in the hood. It was very hard to get the
essentials for the family as well as having rap as your job, it was not
conventional, I couldn't do both. So I took a step back and focused on the
family and I rejected all opportunities to excel my career unless I knew I
could fend for my loved ones.
